MINISTRY & LITURGY VISUAL ARTS AWARD RITUAL OBJECTS (2010)
Marquette University High School: Chapel of the Three Holy Companions Blessing Font and Stations of the Cross Stations of the are marked by six sided bronze plaques in the floor marking the pathway around the chapel leading to the font. Each numbered station is six sided, marking the day of Christ’s Passion and surrounded with a crown of thorns. A passage of scripture is found on each station as St. John Paul II has suggested (1991). This version was chosen so that students would use their bibles to make the way of the cross that would lead them to the blessing font. The font is centered in an octagon, recalling the eighth day of Christ’s Resurrection. The font is made of four pillars of Botticino marble. Each pillar has the scriptural reference to the resurrection as found in each of the four Gospels. At first glance the passages seem in reverse ... they are only legible when the faithful approach the water of Baptism and can “see” the resurrected Lord. |
Testimonials
Where we pray and worship should reflect how well we pray. Joseph Wittmann realizes this, and his efforts in liturgical design is the proof.
~ Timothy Michael Cardinal Dolan, Archbishop of New York
Over the years, the Diocese of Green Bay has utilized the Liturgical Design services of Joseph P. Wittmann. Mr. Wittmann’s Theological background, love of the faith and creative insight has helped to bring new light to churches and parish buildings in need of renovation. His professionalism and knowledge of worthy resources creates a faithful experience.
~ Most Reverend David L. Ricken, Bishop of Green Bay
I strongly support Joseph Wittmann in his profession as a Liturgical Design Consultant. His experience in working with numerous parishes and institutions provides invaluable understanding of how to lead people through the design and construction phases of a church or chapel or shrine building project. In our own parish process Joseph has walked us through each step, and he has been a significant voice around the table. Joseph is adept at leading committee meetings. He is patient with the vagaries of strident personalities and loud voices. Joseph is truly a “minister” in the Church. If you are starting on the road of building a new worship space, then you should definitely give Joseph a call.
~ Fr. Dan Sanders, Pastor, Lumen Christi Parish, Mequon WI
I have had the privilege to work with Joseph on two chapel projects - Marquette University High School and Divine Savior Holy Angels. Joseph is a thoughtful leader. He listens to the charism of the religious community, incorporates ideas of the community, makes connections to all aspects of the faith community, and helps guide the project through prayer. In both experiences Joseph helped design a worship space that actuates the religious foundation of both institutions.
~ Dan Quesnell, Principal, Divine Savior/Holy Angels High School, formerly Marquette University High School, Milwaukee, WI
Joseph provided inspiring leadership during our chapel renovation. He fully embraced our community and offered insights and history that helped us create a new chapel space that we love. Joseph is generous with his time and his knowledge.
~ Sue Smith, President, Nativity Jesuit Academy, Milwaukee WI
Joseph was the perfect choice to help Holy Trinity build a new church on a tight budget. He respected our parish community's needs and vision, but made sure that our vision was guided by a realistic budget and a sense of our place in the universal Church. He helped us save where we could but pushed us to spend money where it really mattered. He even played the organ at our dedication ceremony! I can't say enough about how grateful we are for his excellent work.
~ Fr. Joel Sember, Pastor, Holy Trinity Parish, Oconto WI
